Location: Found along the rugged stretch of Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way, Fanore Beach in County Clare is a true hidden gem. This spot offers visitors a unique blend of natural beauty, rich history, and endless opportunities for outdoor adventure and is where the Caher River meets the Atlantic.
About: Fanore Beach is situated at the base of the Burren, an iconic karst landscape that is renowned for its unique geology and biodiversity. The Burren's geological history dates back thousands of years, with evidence of human settlement in the area dating as far back as the Neolithic period. Visitors can explore ancient ring forts, portal tombs, and other archaeological sites scattered throughout the surrounding landscape.
Get there:
Fanore Beach is located in the northwest corner of County Clare, approximately 80km from Limerick and 45km from Galway.
From Limerick:
Take the N18 west towards Ennis
Then take the N85 and R477 towards Fanore
The journey takes around 1 hour and 20 minutes
From Galway:
Take the N67 south towards Ballyvaughan
Then follow the R477 towards Fanore
The drive is around 1 hour
Ample parking is available near the beach.
