History: Old Irish Folklore suggests the gouged granite cliffs were formed when the legendary hunter Fionn MacCumhaill angrily scooped up rock and soil while in pursuit of a wild boar. They also suggest that the lakes are bottomless and connected to the sea..
Sorry to burst the bubble, but the truth is that they were formed by glaciers over 10,000 years ago during the last ice age. Still pretty cool, plus there are remnants of old settlements and ancient paths.
Get there: 30 KM (18 miles) south of Dublin. Just off the famous Wicklow Gap road (R759) in the village of Lackan, easily accessible from Dublin. From the capital, take the M50 southbound to Exit 11, following signs for the N81 towards Bray/Wicklow Gap for 30 minutes. You'll find a car park once you arrive. Park up and get going. What to do: Simple - Hike. If you're following our Good Vibes Reel, you'll see that Will does the 2-hour loop, from the car park, anti-clockwise, keeping the lake on your left, ascending towards Eagles Crag. Once you're at the top of Eagles Crag, the view is stunning. From there, you can continue on the same route back round.
After that? You probably have to get in the water. Strip off, jump in, cool down. Beautiful.

- Weather: The weather in the Wicklow Mountains can be unpredictable. Bring layers and waterproof gear, and check the forecast before heading out.
- Footwear: Wear sturdy hiking boots with good grip, as parts of the trail can be slippery and uneven.
- Safety: Stick to the marked trails and be mindful of your footing. The terrain can be challenging, especially in wet conditions.
- Leave No Trace: Respect the natural environment by taking all your litter home and leaving no trace of your visit.
If you have more time, consider visiting nearby attractions such as the Powerscourt Waterfall, Glendalough Lake, and the Sally Gap for more hiking and sightseeing opportunities.
