At the heart of Bleubird is a passion for protecting the planet we love. From the outset, I had this focus in mind, and everything we now do is driven by our passion and obligation to protect our planet. Oceans, Mountains & everywhere in-between. As we continue to grow, I will keep challenging everything we do, big and small, to ensure we are doing so in the most environmentally friendly, sustainable & ethical way possible.

Matt, at home in the mountains of  La Rosiere, France.

For every order that is made with us online, we plant a tree. It is that simple.

This planet needs more trees for all sorts of reasons (read more below). By shopping with us, you can help the planet out a little.

Our process is automatic. We have a system integrated into the website which automatically informs our Tree Planting Partners of your order. They can then get planting asap!

We currently plant trees in Madagascar - you'll receive your tree planting certificate via email after you ordering.

Between 1990 & 2016, the world lost 1.3 million square kilometres of forests due to deforestation. Culprits such as farming, mining, drilling and plantations combine for more than half of all deforestation.

Trees help clean the air we breathe, provide the oxygen with breath, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity. Forests provide jobs to over 1 billion people & crucially absorb harmful carbon emissions from the atmosphere.

Cutting trees both adds carbon dioxide to the air and removes the ability to absorb existing carbon dioxide. If tropical deforestation were a country, according to the World Resources Institute, it would rank third in carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions, behind China and the U.S.

So, we reckon trees are pretty important. Although we aren't able to stop deforestation, we can certainly do our bit for the planet by planting new trees for every order we receive. As we continue to grow, so do the forests 🙌

It's more than trees with us...

Planting trees is just one of many eco sides of Bleubird. Another huge part of Bleubird, which is overlooked by so many other brands, is packaging.

We've worked hard and constantly tweaked our packaging in order to ensure Bleubird is not contributing to the plastic crisis which is plaguing our land and oceans. Read more about this below...

With only 9% of the 8.3 billion tons of plastic produced to date being recycled, we have made it imperative that producing harmful plastics is something we won't get involved with. 73% of worldwide beach litter is plastic, 165 million tons has ended up in our oceans & 2 million plastic bags are used around the world EVERY MINUTE - it's madness and it's sickening and it's not something we wish to be a part of. Simple.

That's why we have invested in making sure our packaging is not going to be floating up on beaches in 20 years time. As with most online business, packaging is extremely important to ensure your new products arrive with you safely. The majority of our products are packed and stored individually in clear bags. For shipping they are then packed into our Bleubird mailing bags. Both these bags look like plastic, feel like plastic, serve the same purpose as traditional plastic, but ours are biodegradable - they won't be around for centuries. They will start to decompose naturally after year of manufacturing and if disposed of in industrial composting, they will disintegrate back into the earth after just few months, leaving no trace.

Our bags are made from cornstarch. It's biodegradable, carbon-neutral and also edible (although we don't recommend it as a snack!) We recommend disposing of our bags in your compost bin at home - yes, put it in there! By sending it off with your food waste, your local council facilities will be able to break it down much quicker than normal landfill.

There are some occasions when we need to send out orders or products in different packaging. If this is the case we used recyclable plastic bags which need to be disposed of in recycling bins. Otherwise we will use cardboard boxes which have been sourced ethically and are either recycled, recyclable or both.

Plastic and recycling technology is changing rapidly and we are constantly reviewing how we can use the most eco friendly, carbon neutral and sustainable packaging possible.

There's a lot more going on too.

We currently have a new range of products in production which are made from 100% recycled plastic. Moving forward, I only want to be manufacturing products which are either organic, or recycled. There's no room in this world for adding to plastic problems and fast fashion.

I'll update you again soon with more information on our fully recycled product range ♻️
