Taking the ‘black’ out of Black Friday. Here’s what we’re doing to protect what we love…
Here at Bleubird, we’re passionate about protecting the planet we love and taking steps to reduce our impact on the environment.
So, here’s what we’re doing to reduce our C02 emissions and take the ‘black’ out of Black Friday this year, once again.
We’re taking the ‘Black’ out of Black Friday
At the heart of Bleubird is a passion for protecting the planet we love.
We currently plant one tree for every order, this is standard, we always have.
We use recyclable and biodegradable packaging to ship out all e-commerce orders.
All our new and future apparel is manufactured with organic or recycled materials only.
We are fully committed to doing everything we can to protect what we love and lessen the impact we have as a brand.
We have also been working on a new and exciting project in Malawi for the past year.
Partnering with Mulanje Mission Hospital, this project enables families in Malawi to switch from the inefficient and dangerous ‘Three Stone Fire’ cooking method that has been used for 5,000 years – and is still used by 90% of people in Malawi today – to the Changu Changu Moto (‘Fast Fast Fire’) cookstove developed by Ripple Africa.
There are so many benefits of switching to the Changu Changu Moto cookstove. They reduce the use of household wood from three bundles of wood per week to one. This helps tackle deforestation by reducing household wood use by 66%.
The project also helps families save labour and time, and improves the health of women and children by reducing smoke inhalation. You can learn more about the project and its aims here.
What our community has achieved so far
For every pound spent on our website on Black Free Friday last year, we donated a pound to Bleubird in Malawi to reduce these C02 emissions and help improve the lives of communities there.
These donations have helped us build 900 cookstoves in Malawi, each of which saves an incredible three tonnes of carbon per year.
So, in the past year, we have managed to save 2,700 tonnes of carbon from being emitted into the atmosphere...
To put that into perspective, that is the equivalent carbon saving of 90 commercial flights from Dublin to New York… not too bad at all.
What we’re doing this year
We have been blown away by the incredible impact of the Bleubird in Malawi project. So, we are continuing our commitment to protecting what we love through the project this year.
So, this Black Free Friday, we are taking the ‘black’ out of Black Friday once again. But not just for one day…
We will match every pound spent on our website from Friday 25 November until Monday 28 November in a donation to Bleubird in Malawi to reduce C02 emissions and improve the lives of families there.
The impact of this project has been amazing so far but we aren’t stopping anytime soon.
There is always more we can do. So, we are setting the goal of building 3,000 cookstoves by this time next year.
If we reach this, we will save 9,000 tonnes of carbon from being emitted into the atmosphere by Black Free Friday 2023 - that's 300 flights from Dublin to New York!
